ABCmouse English Learning Academy helps children ages 3–8 learn English in a developmentally appropriate immersive English language environment. The English Learning Academy teaches English as a second language in the same natural sequence as children learn their native language: listening and understanding, speaking, phonics and reading, and then writing. Lessons include engaging instructional animations featuring an English teacher and six children in an international school setting, along with more than 5,000 interactive English learning activities including games, songs, puzzles, art activities, and books, organized into hundreds of lessons and a structured learning path. The English Learning Academy teaches children to understand and say more than 2,000 English words and phrases.
Age of Learning makes the ABCmouse Early Learning Academy curriculum available for free to teachers in the U.S. and Canada as part of ABCmouse for Teachers. ABCmouse for Teachers enables educators to use ABCmouse for whole-class, small-group, and individual learning; to personalize instruction for each student; and to engage families in their children’s learning and strengthen the school-home connection. More than 70,000 teachers regularly use this program in their classrooms.
Age of Learning launched ABCmouse for Schools in 2016 to meet the needs of school districts and school groups in the U.S. and internationally. ABCmouse for Schools combines ABCmouse Early Learning Academy and/or English Learning Academy with student management, curriculum alignment, standards-aligned playlists, progress reporting tools, and professional development. ABCmouse for Schools also includes full access to the ABCmouse curriculum for students at home.
The ABCmouse Assessment Center enables parents to assess their children’s knowledge, skills, and abilities in key areas of language, literacy, and math with hundreds of assessments and thousands of assessment items. The Assessment Center can be used in conjunction with ABCmouse Early Learning Academy to provide recommended Learning Activities personalized to each child’s specific needs. Developed in collaboration with experts at SRI and NORC at the University of Chicago, these assessments encompass preschool through early elementary skills and can be used to evaluate a child’s learning progress.
In addition to the core ABCmouse Early Learning Academy app, Age of Learning has developed eight unique mobile apps that families can use with their ABCmouse subscription at no additional cost. Available on iOS and Android tablets and smartphones and organized by academic subject and activity type, these apps help children quickly discover and access hundreds of Learning Activities from the ABCmouse curriculum. Seven of these apps can be used in offline mode, when families are traveling or cannot use mobile data service. The eighth, ABCmouse Mastering Math, leverages our Personalized Mastery Learning System to help children build a strong understanding of fundamental math concepts.
Age of Learning offers free ABCmouse for Libraries accounts to all public libraries in the U.S. and Canada, providing the full ABCmouse Early Learning Academy curriculum to young patrons. Launched in 2014, ABCmouse for Libraries is now available in nearly 50% of all U.S. public library branches, including more than 70% of the top 50 library systems. Surveys show that families living in poverty are more likely to visit a library than any other community venue, such as a bookstore, theater, or museum (source: Harvard Family Research Project and Public Library Association). Recognizing the critical role of libraries in serving at-risk children, we continue to expand our work with libraries each year.
